Suggestions for your birthday party
The two cousins, who conceived this celebration, (Sarah Munley and Jeanne Smith) and the Gage Center, thank you for hosting a birthday party for Matilda Gage. You are one of the visionaries of today who see the importance of Matilda’s legacy. By hosting a birthday party you are helping to bring her much needed vision for a better world forward into the 21st Century.
Below you will find materials to help you plan your party. This will be an opportunity for you to let people know about the amazing work and vision of Gage. You and your guests also have an opportunity to spread the word further. Contributions from your event will go toward scholarships for young persons to attend the Summer Girls and Boys Camps at the Gage Center. One scholarship costs $135. Our goal is to bring together young people from different communities: African American and Native American, a richness of religious and class backgrounds and provide a platform for them to explore their different perspectives on the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) values, the issues of the women’s movement, the importance of the Underground Railroad and abolition during Matilda’s time and today, and the issues of religious freedom and separation of church and state. In this way you will bring Gage’s legacy forward.
