Fundraiser for the Gage Foundation

“While in Utica I went to see a somewhat noted clairvoyant
who told me a number of curious things — which if they come to pass will be quite remarkable.  As they are in the line of what three or four others have said, I begin to think there must be some truth in them.”

The Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation will hold a unique fundraising event that will recall the exploration Gage conducted into Spiritualism. The freethinking Gage embarked on a deep exploration into several of the world’s spiritual traditions.  She attended séances and physic readings and had astrological charts cast for her family members as she investigated the occult. She believed that paranormal events simply constituted another aspect of the natural world.

The March 13 fundraiser will feature a séance with internationally known certified medium Richard P. Schoeller at the Gage Home, 210 E. Genesee St. in Fayetteville, N.Y., March 13 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on a sliding scale from $50-$100, and seating is limited to 25 people.

The Rev. Schoeller, NST, is a Spiritualist Minister at the Summerland Church of Light, NSAC, in Hauppauge, N.Y.  He is associated with the National Spiritualist Association of Churches and serves as a member of that organization’s national board of directors.

In the early days of the Spiritualist Movement, many well-known suffragists like Gage along with other important historical figures of her time, such as Abraham Lincoln, met privately in their homes with spiritualist mediums to reach out to loved ones on the “other side.” Gage had an interest in Theosophy and in 1885 joined the American Theosophical Society with other members of her family. The inquisitive Gage remarked on the subject, “I am in this and in all things else, an investigator … I examine for myself. I am always a student.”

While the Gage Foundation makes no claims about whether it’s possible for the living to communicate with spirits or whether the spirit realm event exists, we invite the public to join as we celebrate Gage’s spirit of inquiry and explore an intriguing part of the spiritual history of our region.

For more information on the Rev. Schoeller visit: www.sacredmessages.com.

This event is made possible by an anonymous donor, and the total proceeds from this fundraising activity will benefit the work of the Gage Foundation.
