Gage Foundation Local Advisory Committee Member Honored - Barbara S. Rivette of Fayetteville, noted local author and historian, was honored for her work as an historian by the Association of Public Historians of New York State on October 23, 2007. November 2007

Plans are underway for the 3rd Annual Wonderful Weekend of Oz on October 10 - 12, 2008!

The MJF Receives Organizational Building Grant This grant, from Heritage New York, will support the Foundation in the planning and implementation of a major capital campaign aimed at raising funds to rehabilitate the historic Gage Home and reopen it as a house museum and destination for cultural tourism in Central New York. Archaeological Dig Continues
Kim Christensen, UC Berkeley grad. student, will be returning to the Gage Home to complete preliminary archaeological excavations started in summer '05.

Community Discussions Planned for Prospective Gage Library - The Gage Foundation will be hosting a series of focus/planning sessions beginning January 23, 2007 regarding the new Matilda Joslyn Gage Library located at 109 Walnut Street in Fayetteville. January 2007
The Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation Presents The Wonderful Weekend of Oz! - Many events are planned to celebrate Matilda Joslyn Gage and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Gage’s son-in-law, L. Frank Baum. The events benefit the Gage Foundation, which is currently restoring the home of Matilda Joslyn Gage, a Fayetteville resident for over 40 years. September 2006
MGM’s The Wizard of Oz Plays The Palace! - When it was first released in 1939, the soon-to-be-classic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer/Judy Garland Wizard of Oz played locally at The Palace Theater, 2384 James Street in Syracuse. Now the film returns to this newly-renovated venue in an extraordinary, one-time-only "Ozzy" night at the movies on Sun., Oct. 8 at 7:00 PM during The Wonderful Weekend of Oz! September 2006
Local Quilters Participate in The Wonderful Weekend of Oz! and Complete the Yellow Brick Road Challenge - Forty two original Oz-themed quilts will be displayed during The Wonderful Weekend of Oz! The original pieces will be auctioned off on eBay with proceeds generously benefiting The Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation. August 2006
Oz Seminar New York Council for the Humanities Grant - The Gage Foundation receives a grant from the New York Council for the Humanities. The grant, with a partial match from the Onondaga County Public Library, will enable the presentation of the "The Spectrum of Oz: A Seminar" on Sat. Oct. 7 from 10 AM - Noon at the Onondaga County Central Library during The Wonderful Weekend of Oz!  The seminar is free and open to the public. August 2006
Casting for The Maid of Arran - Casting is now taking place for a staged reading of the Irish musical melodrama The Maid of Arran, by L. Frank Baum.  It will be performed in Fayetteville, New York on Fri. Oct. 6, during The Wonderful Weekend of Oz! August 2006
Holly Near Benefit Concert with John Bucchino - The Gage Foundation is pleased to present Holly Near in concert with John Bucchino on Sat., Oct. 7 at 7:30 PM. The concert, part of the Foundation's The Wonderful Weekend of Oz!, will be held at the H.W. Smith School, 1130 Salt Springs Road in Syracuse. August 2006
Environmental Protection Fund Grant - Governor Pataki announced that the Gage Foundation received one of 11 Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) grants awarded in the state, a $290,000 grant which will allow The Gage Foundation to expand the scope of the Gage Home restoration. July 2006
Library of Feminism - Scholar in resident Lesley Lammers and library committee chair Kuki Haines, with additional volunteer assistance, started work on the new Matilda Joslyn Gage Library of Feminism this summer. The Library is located at the Gage Foundation’s new building at 109 Walnut St. in Fayetteville, New York. July 2006
RESTORATION UPDATE - Restoration of the historic Gage Home will begin in August 2006.  Although the Gage Home will be closed during restoration, the Foundation will be offering interpretation of the restoration and archeological dig in progress, as well as walking tours of Gage sites in historic Fayetteville, New York.  July 2006

The Restoration Begins
The historic Gage Home at 210 East Genesee St. will be closing April 29, 2006 for phase one of the restoration.  First floor contents will move to the new facility at 109 Walnut Street, also home of the new Library of Feminism.  An Historic Structure Report that will guide restoration is being prepared.

Fort Drum Team to Help Unearth Story of Forgotten Abolitionist and Suffrage Leader

- For 108 years, an almost forgotten women’s rights pioneer has rested peacefully in the Fayetteville Cemetery, but a team of researchers and scientists from Fort Drum are lending their expertise to help restore Matilda Joslyn Gage to her rightful place alongside Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.

Dr. Laurie Rush, Fort Drum Cultural Resources Coordinator, led a team of Fort Drum researchers and scientists that used ground-penetrating radar and other remote sensing equipment to locate 19th century outbuildings.

The Matilda Joslyn Gage Library of Feminism gets a jump start with the approval of a special use permit for 109 Walnut Street.  Lori Brown, SU Assistant Prof. of Architecture, will be designing the space.  Brainstorming sessions: April 18 and 25, 2006.
