TOURS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
JANUARY & FEBRUARY

Although we are only open by appointment, we still welcome your tour group, no matter the size. Please reach out using the form below to schedule a tour appointment. We appreciate a couple days lead time to schedule a tour guide for your preferred date. Please bear in mind that no staff is available on Sundays or Mondays, as that is our “weekend.”

When you arrive at the Center for your scheduled tour do not be alarmed that the sign on the door says CLOSED. If you ring the bell, a staff member will be with you momentarily. Walnut is a one-way street and is available for street parking. Please park on the right hand side. You will be using the side entrance of the Center located on Walnut Street, not the front door located on Genesee St.

How to become part of the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation

Volunteers
There are many ways that volunteers can help out at the Gage Center. We welcome volunteers of any age, especially families that would like to work together or high school age students who need voluteer hours. With spring in full bloom, we are looking for people to help out with the gardening (lawnmowing, weeding, planting, cleaning, etc). Volunteers inside the museum can help to clean, welcome people to the museum, set up exhibits and gallery installations, or run events, like our monthly Queer Family Brunch.

Docents
Docents are volunteers who would like to be trained to give tours. This might be to regular visitors during Open Hours, special appointments, or even special events. Docents will need to be comfortable remembering names and dates, as well as dealing with historical and modern areas of discomfort: Clinton-Sullivan Campaign, Slavery, the underground railroad, suffrage, and women’s rights.

Handy-People
As with any old, historic home there are problems that crop up. If you are comfortable painting, working with tools, and climbing up ladders, then this is the voluteer area for you! We have some projects in the works, but little things always crop up - especially water, plumbing, and electric. If you have knowledge and are willing to help, please reach out.

Interns
We welcome intern applications from High School, Undergrad Students, and Graduate Students. Current areas of application are: Archives, Library, Curatorial, Programming, and Marketing. If you need real-world experience in one of these areas, please reach out. If you have an idea of another area of study, we are willing to work with you!

Board of Directors
We are always looking for energetic people to join our Board of Directors. If you would like more information about joining us in this very important capacity, reach out to us today. If you would like to be considered for the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation Board of Directors, please email us a letter of introduction, your resume, and a filled out Board of Directors Application Form, found below.
